Small Cottage Living

Little homes are budget friendly.  Small spaces are easier to heat and cool, so smaller utility bills.  During the heat of summer, a small window air conditioner is all we need to make our little cottage comfy from the heat.  In the cold of winter we use an electric heater to keep us warm and cosy on most days.  We also have a gas wall furnace that we use if we have extreme cold.  We love when the weather is such that we can have our windows open and have a gentle breeze coming through.  There is no cost for that.

Small homes cost less to purchase.  When we purchased our little cottage many years ago, our payments were affordable and we were able to pay off our mortgage in a short amount of time.  I might mention that we were able to do this on one income.  I was so thankful to be the keeper of our home, to be there to see my hubby off to work in the mornings and to welcome him home in the evenings and to be at home for our son.  Most days my hubby was able to come home for lunch as he worked in our town.

Little homes are easier to decorate.  We have a rather simple style of decorating.  Our little cottage is rather old fashioned, a bit country and what we call homey.  What you see around our little cottage are treasures that we love, not just "things" filling up space.

Small homes share family togetherness.  We like this about small home living.  When our son was small, it was easy to keep an eye on him and I loved hearing him play as I tended to my homekeeping chores.  If I were puttering around the kitchen or in the laundry room, I knew what was going on in each room of our cottage.

Small spaces encourage more time outdoors.  We enjoy spending time outdoors.  Fresh air is good.  We cherish our time outdoors on our front porch, patio or puttering in our lawn and garden.

Little homes are easier to keep neat and tidy.  Being clutter free is always at the top of my "To Do" list.

Small homes are cosy.  I love the cosy feel of our small space, especially on a cold wintry night when we are snuggled inside.

Small homes are easier to clean.  I love a clean cottage, not perfect, just clean, tidy and comfy.  I am thankful for less space to tend to.

This is what has worked for us for over 49 years.  During those years that our son was growing up, our home was snug and cosy.  Now that our nest is empty, it is working well for our retirement years as well.  It is still snug, cosy and easy to tend to.

Our little cottage, small and quaint, cosy and warm, a touch of vintage charm, humble, living simply is where we like to be.  There is no place like home.  We have so many sweet and simple blessings to count.

Good Morning

We have had a nice first part of August.  We celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary on August 9th.  We feel so blessed.

We have enjoyed such pretty weather for the first part of August.  We have had near fall like weather with nice rain showers throughout the first part of the month.  It looks like we are now in for more summer time weather.  I must say, I have loved the cooler weather.

We have been tending to our home, lawn, garden and enjoyed a few out and about days.

On a not so nice part of August, if any of you have been by to browse through my "little space" in the past few days, you will notice that some of my blog images are missing.  Well, I was wanting to spruce up my "little space" a bit and touched the wrong button and deleted some of my pretties.  Yes, just one touch took away so much.  So, rather than try to put it all back together, I have decided to leave it as is.

I have tidied up the empty spaces and will be content in just the way it is.

I look forward to visiting you very soon and hope that you all have enjoyed a few sweet little pleasures and many simple blessings for your month of August.
