It is summertime in Kansas.  I plan to putter inside our little cottage as I am thankful for our window air conditioner.  It keeps our cottage cool and comfy on those very hot summer days.  Although, this past weekend and the first part of our week were actually quite pleasant.  Our days were cool and our evenings quite chilly.  We enjoyed having our windows open and the gentle breeze was very nice.  Today, it is beginning to warm up and be a bit more summer like for us.

Today will be a day to feather our little nest, tend to home keeping chores and be thankful for all of the sweet pleasures and simple blessings that God has provided for us.  I plan to do a bit of updating on our Home Journal this afternoon.

Later this evening, we may enjoy a little time on the front porch with a glass of fresh brewed iced tea.

A Few Words From My Home Journal

While the earth remaineth, seed time and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. Genesis 8:22

Love is to the heart what summer is to the farmer's year.  It brings to harvest all the loveliest flowers of the soul.
~ Billy Graham ~

Rest is not idleness and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water or watching the clouds float across the sky is hardly a waste of time.
~ John Lubbock ~

Because it is summer and the memories are just waiting to happen.

The summer night is like a perfection of thought.
~ Wallace Stevens ~

Oh, such homey summer days and nights.

I hope that you all enjoy a pretty summer in your neck of the woods.

Family and Friends are Like Patchwork Quilts

Patchwork Quilt

Our family is like a patchwork quilt,
With kindness gently sewn,
Each piece is an original,
With beauty all its own.

With threads of warmth and happiness,
It's tightly stitched together,
To last in love throughout the years,
Our family is forever.
~ Author Unknown ~

Friendship is like a patchwork quilt of caring words, thoughtful deeds, lots of laughter, all stitched together with understanding.

Quiet And Gentle Living

I am all for simple living and living a gentle, quiet and cosy life.

My thoughts on simple living are by slowing down, cherishing the small things in life and seeing the beauty in everyday living.

I thought that I would share a few thoughts of mine from our home.

♥  Putting thought into how we keep our home by using what we have, getting rid of what we do not need and keeping within a budget as we make our home into a warm and cosy haven.

♥  If there is something we want to bring into our home, save for it, buy quality as it will last a long time.

♥  When family and friends come to visit, welcome them and be prepared to offer food and drink.  It is nice to have a little space in my pantry stocked just for that purpose.

♥  Take time to linger.  Enjoy the moment.  Slow down.

♥  Enjoy what we have.  Be content and satisfied with what we have.  Take care of what we have.

♥  Everything does not need to be perfect.  Keeping things simple, but nice is what works for us.

♥  Sharing what we have is important.  It gives us a good feeling to share with others.

♥  Lighting candles is a way to cosy our home.  We even have two rustic little battery candles on our front porch.  It adds such a warm and cosy touch.

♥  I find it so important to take time throughout the day to be quiet, to rest, to relax.  It makes for a pleasant day.

♥  A nice warm bath ... candle lite ... soft music.  A perfect way to end the day.

Simplicity, to me is to enjoy simple pleasures of life, feeling warm and content and has nothing to do with material possessions, but to do with people, happiness and enjoying the moment.

Words To Warm The Heart

As I have mentioned before, over the years I have collected words and snapshots that are near and dear to my heart.

Today, I thought that I would share a few of my gardening ones with you.  Perhaps you will find them as heartwarming as I do.

Spread seeds of joy and happiness.

The harvest you gather tomorrow are the seeds you plant today.

A beautiful garden is a work of heart.

Friends are like flowers in the garden of life.

God blesses the hands that work in a garden.

Herbs add spice to your life.

Grow where you are planted.

Plant smiles, grow giggles, harvest love.

The seed is hope, the flower is joy.

Kind thoughts are the root, kind words are the blossoms, kind deeds are the fruit.

Spring blessings as we enjoy this beautiful spring season.  Summer is just around the corner.
